He Inoa No Emalani
Beloved is Nihoa in the sea
In the robe of sea spray of Ka'ulakahi

Listen to the song of the bamboo (flute)
And the sounds coming fom the singing shells

In the upland of Pihanakalani
The sea of Wailua can be heard

I am not in the west
I am in the east

What is this water so delicious?
The water (liquor) from America

The name chant is sung, let it be heard
Queen Emma is her name

The Name of Queen Emma

Source: Na Mele Hula by Nona Beamer - This `Ai Ha`a chant honors Nihoa, the highest unpopulated, leeward, northwestern island of the Hawaiian chain, nearest the main islands. Ka`ahumanu gave the name to the waterfront of downtown Honolulu in honor of her visit to Nihoa. Ka`ulakahi (the single flame) is the channel between Kaua`i and Ni`ihau. Wailua, in Kaua`i, is noted for the important birthstones. Emalani, Queen Emma, was the wife of Kamehameha IV.
